NFL Minky Blankets....finally!

I know, I know....it's been almost 4 months since my last post.  Sorry, I was busy packing, moving, and unpacking!  But now we are mostly settled in our new location in NY and I can almost access my sewing stuff again!  Now if only I could find that dang power card and foot pedal for my sewing machine....

So in the meantime, here is a post for a semi-recent project completed for my brother and sister-in-law and the quickly upcoming arrival of their baby girl!!  They are both NFL fans, and are hard corps fans for different teams.  Now, I tried to come up with something to combine these two teams, but that just wasn't working....their colors are totally different, so two separate items were needed for this special occasion!  AND they were having the baby shower when we were passing through on our move, so I could actually give it to them in person!  I always love giving things to people in person....it's fun to wrap up cute and to actually get to see their expression when they see what it is.

I originally found this tutorial on another blog, though to be honest, I don't have the link any more now that I know how to do it.  But basically it was to take a solid rectangle of cotton fabric, pick a coordinating fabric for the ruffle, and a matching color in minky material for the back.  Well, NFL fabric is, let's face it, UGLY!!  I couldn't use just a solid rectangle of NFL fabric for a baby blanket, so I did some basic piecing together to at least add some color with the coordinating ruffle fabric as well as some directional variation.  And enough talking....now for pictures!! First, the Eagles blanket for my sister-in-law Jessie...

As a little side project, I had extra ruffle fabric, so I decided to make them some cute burp rags as well (a set also went to our friends Nick and Andrea since I had so much extra!).  Basically all you do is take a premade white cloth diaper, cut strips of fabric to the correct length, press raw edges under, and sew on to the diaper.  From what I hear (since I don't have kids yet), cloth diapers make great burp rags since they are so absorbant.  So now they have some to both match the blankets, as well as just be cute on their own.  Here's how they turned out!

Okay that's it for a while!  I have a project I'm working on for my mom (though to be honest it hasn't really even started yet.....) but that won't be done until after Thanksgiving since that's when I will see her next.  Sorry to make you wait for more craftiness, but look for some recipes in the mean time! :-)
